Dr. Steve Baber was recognized for his work in the 1990s with the ARKNet Board of Directors that brought the Internet to nearly every institution of higher education and public high school in Arkansas. In addition, Baber served first as program coordinator and later as conference chair for the annual Arkansas Computer Conference hosted by the Arkansas Society for Computer and Information Technology (ASCIT). Baber was also recognized for his 27 years of work with intercollegiate programming contests. Dr. Baber served on the steering committee that created the ACM Mid-South Regional Intercollegiate Programming Contest, serving as the first head judge of this 5-state competition. He was also instrumental in the creation of a state-wide intercollegiate programming contest, first hosted by ASCIT and now hosted by the Acxiom Corporation. More recently, Dr. Baber has been involved with the oversight of another regional programming competition hosted by the Consortium for Computing Sciences in Colleges: Mid-South Conference (CCSC:MS). Dr. Steve Baber is a 1974 graduate from Harding University and earned his doctorate from Texas A&M University in 1980. He has been a professor in the Department of Computer Science at Harding University since the fall of 1983.
